Guys, I’m totally obsessed with tofu at the moment. I think I have had it at least four times in the past week, but I just can not stop thinking about it. I’m especially in love with crispy pan fried tofu, and I am about to share my favourite recipe with you.
I’ll be honest with you though. I’ve not always been a tofu fan. The first time I tried tofu was in a Thai restaurant. I think I ordered some kind of soup, and whilst the soup itself was to die for, the tofu was extremely soggy and lacked in flavour. Honestly guys, prior to discovering this method I absolutely hated tofu and I’d avoid it like mad!
What I love about pan fried tofu is that you can do pretty much anything with it. Enjoy it on it’s own (some would say that’s pretty boring but hey! it’s hella tasty!), or you can add it to salads, curries, wraps, pasta dishes, stir-fries and more!
The tofu I used in this recipe is from a brand called Tofoo. In this recipe, I used their ‘Naked’ organic tofu, but their smoked tofu works too!
Crispy pan fried tofu
Ingredients
- 280 g tofu
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp curry powder
- pinch of salt
- 1 tsp basil
- 1 tsp dried chilli flakes
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- Cut the tofu into small cubes and place in a medium mixing bowl. Season with all the spices, pour over the soya sauce and mix until all pieces are coated evenly.
- Heat a large pan over medium heat. Once hot, add the oil and the seasoned tofu. Sauté for around 5-10 minutes, flipping occasionally to cook on all sides, until tofu has a golden crust on each side.
- Remove from the heat and add to virtually any dish you like! Fried tofu is best when fresh, but can be stored in the refrigerator for a couple of days.
